Hey there asked:
This weekend is supposed to be a huge debate at the High School in Middleboro over a proposed casino. What is your opinion having one in Massachusetts, or in Middleboro for that matter?
I live extreamly close to where it would be built.

I like the idea. More money for Mass. Why should Conn. make money that should go to us. It might help our taxes stabilize.
I’m worried about it. I hear that the gambling industry doesn’t really create a lot of jobs for local people.
A few years ago I was in Lake Tahoe NV. A friend and I were bored so we went into the pawn shop. There were cases and cases of men’s and women’s jewelry (including wedding rings) that had apparently been pawned so the owners could keep gambling.
I think it would be great! I’m sure this is because I don’t live close enough that the traffic would greatly effect me, or get the negative side effects. . . But, it would cause a boost in the economy here, and I think it would be fun to boot!
I’m absolutely thrilled by the idea. I adore Mohegan Sun, and would LOVE to see MA benefit from the some of the $$$ it brings in. I’d also love to drive less than an hour and a half each way.
I could see where it is a bit more of a mixed blessing for you. But if taxes in Middleboro have been even half as insane in over rides as they have been here, I think you guys might end up saving a lot of money. I just hope the neighborhood groups are well organized and make sure that roads are constructed in a way that traffic will easily flow into/out of the casino with as little impact on the neighborhood as possible.
On thing that I noticed on the news. There are groups fighting for it, really mad/loud folks fighting against it. Is there anyone fighting to make sure it is done right and so you guys get the best of both worlds??? Sure hope so for your sake.
But even if your town falls through, I hope they find a spot here. Why should CT get the benefits of all our gambling dollars???! The MA economy definately could use this boost right about now! As as for the effects of gambling, my feeling is between the various lotto games, the tracks, keno, and both CT casinos, anyone in this area who wants to gamble has ample access to it. The only difference is that the residents of MA would have some of the benefits. And if they do as nice a job as Mohegan Sun, it would be awesome to have a closer facility like that to go to. There is so much to do that that often I don’t gamble a lot cause I’m too busy with other fun stuff and concerts etc. Plus w/these gas prices, a shorter drive would be great for both the environment and my wallet. Heck, those savings alone would keep me gambling for awhile!
i think it would be good for the Ma economy
I’d be happy it see it in Ma.. They are talking about it on the news right now! New Bedford blew it again huh?
I have no problem with it except that I think it should be located closer to the train station.
I also think that local politicians should recognize that US gambling in most places is approaching the point of diminishing returns. Middleborough will recapture many Massachusetts residents now going to CT and some RI people, too, but only until the Narragansetts have a casino of their own in RI, and some northern New Englanders until NH and ME act to keep their money there by building casinos, too (VT will probably resist).
More money for MA. CT is getting all the money! I dont live in MA. but my cousin does, and she loves the idea.
no thank you, don’t need any more violence or drunk driving problems. w
Even though I don’t live near Middleboro, I think it’s a terrible idea.
I’m originally from a state where there weren’t many restrictions on gambling and casinos. Every other corner in my hometown either had a casino, a bank, or a pawn shop. When people would visit from out of state they’d always comment on the number of casinos.
While this is just one, I believe it would just be the beginning. If one is successful, they’ll build more. And before you know it, you’ve got an ugly city full of casinos, not to mention all the addicts. I wouldn’t wish it upon any city.
I think after year of losing what is now billions of tax dollars to casinos in Connecticut I think it is time for one here.
Middleboro seems awfully far away from metro Boston and Suffolk Downs would have been more convenient and accessible by subway.
One thing that will come out of it will be upgrades of that skinny little road going to the Cape that overloads every summer weekend. With casino money behind road improvements that ride will be improved too.
Truthfully I’m worried. It’s all fine and good for people who love to gamble and don’t live or work within an earshot. But unfortunately, I do work there. I think the traffic logistics will be nightmarish and that’s what I fear the most.
Hi
I think it is great! This state has long been losing money to the casinos in Connecticut and Rhode Island. It is about time we have something close to home. Gambling has been around a long time, and we are not going to make it go away just by not having a casino! This will bring much needed employment to the area, and money. The townspeople of Middleboro, Mass just voted today and voted “yes”. Now we have to wait for the legislature to vote on it.

Bring it on! The casinos in CT are raking in the money from Mass residents today. This way more money stays in state…
I dont think it would go threw, but it would be pretty sickto have a casino less than an hour away..I just dont want the town to turn into a huge city.
