music therapy?

massachusetts jobs
and everything nice asked:

FIrst off, how risky is it to be a music therapist financially? Would it be a secure and safe job? I know they don’t have a doctorate degree to offer yet, but I think they will in a few years. Secondly, what part of America would be a better place to live to get alot of patients for music therapy? My sister told me the north would be good– like Massachusetts, New Hamshire, etc. I live in North Carolina and not many people even know what music therapy is.

You need to be near a major teaching hospital, in my opinion. They will know what music therapy is, have facilities where you can work and can also provide research opportunities (important if you wish to establish evidence based practices – medicaid, medicare, and agencies in general are big on that when it comes to billable services).

Up north you may find the cost of living too high. It would depend. You may want to try the southern teaching hospitals to balance salary and cost of living.
