kait3w asked:
my boyfriend has been laid off from his job because they stopped production.. he will be leaving for Iraq very soon so there is no point in trying to get another job so I figured he could collect unemployment.. right? And he lives in Rhode Island but worked in Massachusetts so the claim would have to be put in in Mass. or am I wrong on that?
If so how would he do that?

He would have to file in the state of his residence.
that guy was wrong.
You file in the state of employment. Many states have online filing. Do it soon. It is not retroactive.
It is STATE unemployment, so Rhode Island would not pay him, Mass. pays him from fund that the employers pay into.
What a dummy, he should have filed as soon as he became unemployed. Go to (unemployment office in your town in Massachusetts) or IDES-MASSACHUSETTS. It’s a piece of cake. Do it now.
