Kaiden asked:
In March me and my husband are driving from Massachusetts to Florida to visit relatives. Neither of us have ever been further south than New York, which isn’t really south!
We’ll be passing through New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. Being a 22 hour car ride, we’ll really need some stops to break it up! It will likely end up stretching into a few day ride for us.
Does anyone have any suggestions on places to go and things to see in the states I mentioned above?

well Washington DC has many sights to see
monuments and memorials
also if you liked the Andy Griffith show stop in Mayberry(Mount Airry) NC
also if you like Nascar stop in some of the shops around the Charlotte NC Area
i am sure you will also find many more things to do on the way there and back
now if you mentioned out west i could mention many more
Depends on how much time you want to sight-see vs get to your end destination.
The ride from Washington DC south is really boring on I95.
IMHO – Baltimore is worth stopping at, but only if your willing to spend a day there. Same with Washington DC, that’s a vacation all by itself.
Your not in a huge hurry, take I40 to Wilmington, NC then go south on Hwy 17 until it connects back to I95 in South Carolina. Check out Myrtle Beach and Charleston – just be prepared that it will be slow going.
It sounds like a fun trip! Are you taking I-95?
You will be passing by the famous, lovely and long Jersey Shore. Depending at what point you need a break, you could stop at various shore towns (see link) to walk on the beach and the boardwalk, though most shore businesses are closed in March. Atlantic City is famous, of course, or Cape May is a prettier, more peaceful town with Victorian homes and famous “Cape May diamonds” to search for.
Further south, you could check out some of the most famous sites in Washington, D.C.
Wilmington, NC, is a lovely little historic town. There are also some beautiful beaches nearby. If you had more time, you could make a detour to drive through the Outer Banks, which are beautiful and interesting (the Wright Brothers got their flying start there) – though I’m not sure how the weather would be in March.
Myrtle Beach, SC, also has beautiful coast and is loaded with attractions – hotels with several indoor pools and whirpools, tons of huge areas with shops, activities and restaurants. It’s HUGE – I have never seen sooo many restaurants and shops in one area! It could definitely make a good diversion from sitting in the car a long time and you might get good hotel deals in March.
Savannah, GA, is not far off the highway and is also beautiful and historic and has southern flair. (If you have more time for a detour and are interested in southern flair and/or history, try to see Charleston, SC!)
You also won’t be too far from some famous islands along the coast, like Hilton Head (SC) and Jekyll Island in Georgia.
Have a great time!
