Can a PO change the terms of probation set forth by a court in Massachusetts simply on a whim of her own? I am on probation for a DUI, have completed 14 of 24 months without any violations, and was ordered by the judge to see my PO once every 30 days, yet, due to a personality clash only, the PO has been yanking my chain by having me now appear before her every 2 or three weeks depending on her mood. It is a three hour round trip by bus and foot to visit her in another county and I have already lost out on one job opportunity due to her erratic and ever changing scheduling of our meetings. She’s a PO from hell. Pure evil. Help! ![]()
The order of “once every 30 days” was hand-written by the judge on the form that was given to me at the time I pleaded guilty. And, to the other poster, no, I am not looking for anyone’s sympathy. Just want some clarification of the law. Thanks all!
I AM FROM WASHINGTON STATE AND MY BOYFRIEND IS FROM MASSACHUSETTS HE GOT A DUI THERE AND IS ON PROBATION FOR A YEAR BUT HE JUST WANTS TO PAY THE FINES AND MOVE OUT HERE WOULD IT WORK OUT? COULD HE GET A JOB AND LICENSE HERE AND BE OKAY?
I recently received a $250 speeding ticket in Massachusetts for doing 90 in a 65. A truck was merging into my lane and was about to hit me. The officer was outside of his car when he saw me. He waved at me, I immediately slowed down, and he jumped in his car, turned on his lights and I pulled over immediately. He said that because I didn’t stop when he waved, it was an extra $100 fine. First of all, is this fair? Since when was I supposed to know that waving meant pull over (even if it’s what he DID mean, can he really punish me for having misunderstood)? Also, if I plead not guilty, will I have to travel to MA for a hearing, and will I have any say in when that hearing takes place? I’m moving to Montana to work for the summer, so I can’t just zip over to Mass. I’m transferring to an MA school next spring, is there any way to delay the hearing until then? If I plead guilty, how will an out-of-state ticket affect my record/insurance in Pennsylvania?
I didn’t argue with him, I accepted the ticket and apologized. He also never wrote anything on the ticket about the extra $100 fine, all he put was speeding = $250.
Other important info: I was in an accident a week ago where my car was totalled in a hit-and-run. Since then, my parents have taken me off their insurance. How can my insurance rates go up as the result of a ticket if I’m not part of any insurance plan?
I recently attended a “summer program” at the Massachusetts State Police Academy. I loved every moment of it.
However, even though I liked it, I realize that getting a job as a Police Officer is difficult.
I’m college bound and was wondering what makes you a marketable candidate. Your answers will help me make a choice on which college I will go to.
One college will allow me to graduate with a Masters, another a Bachelors (In Criminal Justice).
As an afterthought, is job sourcing something to think about as well? I.E. Students from that school are known to be exceptional officers, therefore hire from that school’s pool before looking at other pools.
My state has the Quinn Bill which provides pay rate increases based on degree levels, thus implying that the state wants more qualified officers.
In MA legislature, it seems education is valued over experience, although I have no doubt from an employer standpoint, being with the USMC or any other branch is a biggie.
My friend just got back from vacation in massachusetts, and he said that he witnesse a public paddling given as a punishment for breaking the law! He says that is very common in massachusetts, and that they have special platforms in town squares to paddle criminals on and hundreds of people come to watch! He also said they carry out paddlings at places like malls and airports! I don’t believe him, i didn’t think that was legal anywhere in the U.S. Is he telling the truth?
She was a minor all the times except for one.Can she still become a Massachusetts police officer?Or did that ruin her chance?Do they review it?How does it work?
No.Not medically hospitalized. She went to a mentel hospital. But has no history of a mentel illness.
Trooper-It was different reasons. She dos not have one. They even said so.
I am a minor with a Massachusetts drivers license and I received a speeding ticket in Virginia. I know the MA law for in state tickets is pretty heavy – you get your license suspended, have to take an etiquette course, and have to pay a hefty reinstatement fee along with the fine for however fast you were going. I’m just wondering if the fact that my ticket is from VA will change any of this.
