Jane asked:

I received a speeding ticket (my first moving violation of any kind) citing 75mph in 55 zone in New Hampshire. I live and am licensed in Massachusetts. I am thinking of pleading no contest. My question is, if I get a job offer in a different state and move there, how many points if any will be on my driving record in new state?

For example, in Massachusetts you get no points for first offense (my situation).

However would if I later move to another state where 20mph over limit would be considered reckless driving? Would that mean I start off with 3 -4 points on my license in that new state because the driving record followed me from Massachusetts?

Does the driving record specify how many mph over the limit for the offense? What exact details would be on the driving record?

Thanks

I only intend to live in Texas temporarily, maybe less than a year.

Registering it in Massachusetts instead of Texas would save me at least $1000 in sales taxes up front.
I don’t currently own a car, but I may be moving to Texas soon. But, I don’t feel like buying a new car here in Massachusetts and then driving 1800 miles across the country.

I’d rather just buy the car there.

The reason I’m afraid of Texas taxes (…oy vey, what a tongue twister) is because Texas has no state income tax, so their sales and excise taxes are probably much higher than what we pay here in Mass.

I currently have a permit in the state of Minnesota (even more lame) that would allow me to test for my license in early August. If I move to Massachusetts, how long would I have to wait to get a license? Would I be able to put my permit time in Minnesota towards a Mass. license? What is the standard wait for people my age there to begin with? Thanks!
