7. What are the main skills needed to do this job.
I worked for this supermarket chain in Massachusetts as a Seafood Manager for 16 yr. In 2005 and in the previous years, I had great performance reviews, but last year I did not have a good one (This was the first time I was rated under-performance). As a result, I was transfered to a new store. My new boss never gave the chance to prove that I could perform better than last year. The HR person even told me that it happened before: “Everyone who comes to his store in this situation will always be an underperformer in his eyes.”
I just got tired of him telling me how much I stunk, all the time. I even asked for a transfer, but he denied, so I quit.
Actually, I asked to go part-time and work for a different store -same chain- until find something else. When my manager-to-be called my former one, he must have trashed me, because I haven’t heard anything about the part-time job.
Question: When I get a new job, will my former manager be able 2 give bad references? Can he do that?
I am actually changing my career. Next month I will graduate and get my Masters in Business Administration degree and want to get good references, since I don’t have any office work experience.
I notice my former boss started treating me worse when he found out I was going to school. One day, he saw me reading a book in the lunchroom at my lunch time and asked me if I was going to school. That’s when I told him.
After that, he changed and sometines told me I was dedicating myself more to my studies than to my work. I never even read my books or did my homework during company time.
What should I write in my job applications when they ask for my reason for leaving?
In the Boston area, do they really make about $80,000? Wow. Do you think that will change very dramaticaly w/in the next couple of years? I know dental hygiene is one of those increasing pay and demand jobs lately, but do you think it will stay that way for a while? yea Ican afford a $400,000 house on my own (assuming I spend 1/3 of my salary over 15 years)!
I am graduating high school next month, and i don’t have a clue what i want to do with my life… i currently work at a donut shop and a daycare every day of the week, including weekends(also going to school everyday) so i am not worried about hard work, because i love keeping myself busy with work. I will consider anything, however i only started trying hard in school this year, and fooled around freshmen-junior year, so my grades are AVERAGE. They aren’t bad but they aren’t great. I have taken career quizzes, but i want to hear from real people that enjoy what they do for a living. I am pretty sure that i am going to massasoit (a community college in brockton mass), but i did get into Curry College (in milton massachusetts) Any suggestions, please post! i am interested to see what some good jobs are with GOOD PAY!!!
I have had a decent career as a Manager at an Ad Agency or printing company. I’m divorce and I have a 4 yr old daughter. I live in CT, but I’m dating a woman that lives in MA. I’m on the verge of moving to MA with her. In some ways this is good; I get to start my life over. But I feel like things could fall part if I don’t have a plan. My concern is the stress in my life. Lots of changes are stressful as is my job. It pays well, but I know its affecting my health. I’m looking forward to a change. If I can find a way to support myself in Massachusetts, I would be happier. But, I’d really like to do something else, but dread having to go back to school and take a pay cut to re-establish myself in some other career. Ideally I’d like to have a business of my own, but what is that? Any advice on how I can find some stability on my life and be content would be appreciated. I have this great opportunity to start over; I just don’t want to stumble around in life blindly.
No religious answers please
I certainly live up to my responsibilities as a dad and my daughter is my first priority. I love her and she loves me. But, I only get to see her every other weekend. You have no idea how hard that is on me. I would be living about an hour and fifteen minutes from her, so no big deal. I think I will be an even better dad if I get my own life in check.
My employer started reducing my hours at the end of January, of which I was notified. Since then my hours have gone from 36 hours a week to 6 hours a week without any sort of notice at all. I can go in one day and be told, “you’ve been cut this day, or you’ve been cut these hours.” The reason for the cuts is because I work for a doctor’s office we went electronic so there isn’t a lot of work for me to do. She seems to be slowly laying me off preventing me from getting any viable unemployment compensation….is there a way to get unemployment based on pay from before the cuts if I send in 2 months of stubs? Is it legal for her to keep cutting my hours this way until (ultimatly I’m sure) laying me off? I live in Massachusetts if that helps any. I am actively looking for a job, and have been since the cuts started, but nothing seems to be working out….can she do this to me?
When I was told the first time I was told only Thurs (which was 4.5 hours) would be cut and I was given a 2 week notice for that. That have me 32 hours….
then I was told Tues would be my only full day and Mon, Wed, Fri were 4.5 hour days.. giving me something like 20 hours…
then full day tues was cut and it was all half days, and then in the same week Tues was cut all together.
I was left with Mon, Wed, Fri and today Wed went bye bye and now I am left with Mon and Fri 9-12.
