An out-of-work money manager in California loses a fortune and wipes out his family in a murder-suicide. A 90-year-old Ohio widow shoots herself in the chest as authorities arrive to evict her from the modest house she called home for 38 years.
In Massachusetts, a housewife who had hidden her family’s mounting financial crisis from her husband sends a note to the mortgage company warning: “By the time you foreclose on my house, I’ll be dead.”
Then Carlene Balderrama shot herself to death, leaving an insurance policy and a ******* note on a table.
Across the country, authorities are becoming concerned that the nation’s financial woes could turn increasingly violent, and they are urging people to get help. In some places, mental-health hot lines are jammed, counseling services are in high demand and domestic-violence shelters are full.
“I’ve had a number of people say that this is the thing most reminiscent of 9/11 that’s happened here since then,” said the Rev. Canon Ann Malonee, vicar at Trinity Church in the heart of New York’s financial district. “It’s that sense of having the rug pulled out from under them.”
With nowhere else to turn, many people are calling suicide-prevention hot lines. The Samaritans of New York have seen calls rise more than 16 percent in the past year, many of them money-related. The Switchboard of Miami has recorded more than 500 foreclosure-related calls this year.
“A lot of people are telling us they are losing everything. They’re losing their homes, they’re going into foreclosure, they’ve lost their jobs,” said Virginia Cervasio, executive director of a ******* resource enter in southwest Florida’s Lee County.

I was born middle class. I was financially illiterate most of my life, racking up credit card debt of up to $18,000. But strangely enough I always saved money, at one point having about $9,000 in a saving account. It never occurred to me to put the money into something or to pay off the credit card debt. I was never told or taught that. I just paid the minimum credit card balances like my parents told me too.
I had an initial phone interview for an organization in Massachusetts and have been invited for the second/final round. They offered me the option of a phone interview or to come in. It will be a panel interview regardless. I live in Virginia and a plane flight and day off of work will be tight. She said they are interviewing people all over the country, some of those who live far away have opted to take the phone interview, it’s completely up to you. ALSO…I have previously met the director of the position in a professional manner in our previous jobs.
So, I seriously decreasing my odds? Is it worth it to bite the bullet and fly up there? Can I offer a web-teleconference?
Thanks!
The **potential** of green jobs:
http://green.yahoo.com/blog/greenpicks/231/what-the-green-collar-economy-means-for-you.html
So, what exactly is a “green collar” job, and more importantly, how do you get one? There’s no definitive term just yet, but here’s the short answer according to Pete Altman at the Natural Resources Defense Council: “A green job is just like a regular job only the result of what you are making or doing is good for the environment.”
And, it turns out that what’s good for the environment is going to be good for America’s workforce. A reportfrom the University of Amherst Massachusetts says that a $100 billion investment in green programs would create about two million jobs over two years. About 750,000 green jobs already exist, according to a 2008 U.S. Conference of Mayors’ report.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was all smiles in 2006 when he signed into law the toughest anti-global-warming regulations of any state. Mr. Schwarzenegger and his green supporters boasted that the regulations would steer California into a prosperous era of green jobs, renewable energy, and technological leadership. Instead, since 2007 — in anticipation of the new mandates — California has led the nation in job losses.
The regulations created a cap-and-trade system, similar to proposed federal global-warming measures, by limiting the CO2 that utilities, trucking companies and other businesses can emit, and imposed steep new taxes on companies that exceed the caps. Since energy is an input in everything that’s produced, this will raise the cost of production inside California’s borders.
hater police……..Did you ignore the fact that a “plan” similar to Obama’s “green jobs” plan was implemented in California in 2006. The results: massive failure.
chote……..”The reason most Republicans put down “green” jobs is that very few Republicans stand to make money off of them.”
The reason it failed in California is PRECISELY because it didn’t make any money. It simply put the state farther in debt.

REPORTER: “From the forums and the debates I’ve gotten the impression that you grew up in a modest home?”
DEAN: “I certainly had a solid family. We had a nice house. My father was a sales manager, but I had the opportunity to work in high school because there were plenty of factory jobs available. I was also able to work when I was in college and law school at a paper mill. Back in the ‘70s that was a really good job to help pay for going to college at Columbia.”
