Should I take advantage of where I live, or go to California for college?

elise asked:

Hi. I live in Massachusetts, about an hour outside Boston, the college capital of the U.S., if not the world. There’s 107 universities and liberal arts colleges in the small state of Massachusetts (Northeastern, Boston College, Harvard, Boston University, Bridgewater, and U-Mass just to name a few). My dad says it’s a shame I don’t want to take advantage of this, but I just really want to get out of Massachusetts. The weather is so cold, and the people are colder, and live such a fast pace life. I don’t want that life at all. I want to have a house on the beach in California and have a job I absolutely love. I want to go to the University of South California, but I know schools down there (the UCs) are so competitive, and it will be even harder for me to get in because I’m an out of state student. Do you think I should take advantage of the opportunities right in front of my nose, or should I try to get into a college in SoCal? There are so many amazing colleges here, I just want to get away from everyone I go to high school with. What would you do?

Need a clever tittle for an essay on the economical effect of universal heath care?

Humberto asked:

I chose to argue it would have a positive effect ( everyone else chose to argue that it would have a negative effect, so arguing the opposite would make for a stronger essay) Instead of torturing you with a really long essay I’ll just present the main point:
1. Creates new revenue for the economy
2. Create new jobs
3. Affordable in most states (Massachusetts already has a system and I used some examples where if It’s system was used as a model and a few changes were made, larger and poorer states could afford it too)
@80ist
I wasnt asking for your position I was asking for a title. A different position usually gets a higher grade anyway. So go back to worshiping Glenn beck and let the grown ups talk.

Are My Friends Are Lazy? Do I Have a Point in This Issue?

Annie M asked:

Okay so tell me if I’m wrong here…I have had the same job since I was 14 and I had always wanted to work before I turned 14…but it is illegal for someone under 14 to work and get a paycheck in Massachusetts. I’m almost 17 and I still love to work but pretty much none of my really good friends have jobs. Their parents say nothing about it and just say “school is your job”. Is it wrong for their parents to keep them from working? I was raised to believe that working and earning your own paycheck is something to be proud of. I’m making my own money and with that money I buy all of my clothes and stuff like that so that my dad doesn’t have to worry about it. Would you consider my friends lazy? I often find myself rolling my eyes at them at this issue…am I wrong?

Chances of a snow day tomorrow for Whitman-Hanson School District (MA)? (12/22/08)?

Zip code: 02382-2444 (Southeastern Massachusetts)

Anyone have any idea? The snow happening right now (Sunday, about 11:40am) will probably turn to a mix around 4pm, and then it’s expected to flash freeze. I’m just wanting to hear some opinions from people who may not be so hopeful as me and my friends. :]
-We’re one of I think a handful of districts even bothering to go to school Monday and Tuesday. -_- Our district has always been such tight-bums that way.

Is winter fair to everyone?

Over 9000 asked:

Is it fair that me, living in Nebraska, as well as many people living north of me in Minnesota, Michigan, North/South Dakota, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, etc. basically the northern states, have to suffer through walking in temperatures below zero in order to get to our work/jobs in the early morning, getting snow, salt and road grime on our shoes, leaving and coming home in the darkness, and driving through treacherous winter conditions while people in Florida, Texas and California just enjoy temperatures in the 60-70′s and sun all day? This always annoys me…and is why I am going to try to go to a university in California.

Signs That You are Too Drunk..?

chris b asked:

You lose arguments with inanimate objects.

You have to hold onto the lawn to keep from falling off the earth.

Your job is interfering with your drinking.

Your doctor finds traces of blood in your alchohol stream.

Your career won’t progress beyond Senator from Massachusetts.

The back of your head keeps getting hit by the toilet seat.

You sincerely believe alchohol is the elusive 5th food group.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case – coincidence? I think not!

Two hands and just one mouth.. – now THAT’S a drinking problem!

You can focus better with one eye closed.

The parking lot seems to have moved while you were in the bar.

You fall off the floor..

Your twin sons are named Barley and Hops.

Hey, 5 beers has just as many calories as a burger, ***** dinner!

Mosquitoes catch a buzz after attacking you.

At AA meetings you begin: ‘Hi my name is.. uh..’

Your idea of cutting back is less salt.

You wake up in the bedroom, your underwear is in the bathroom, you fell asleep clothed.

The whole bar says ‘Hi’ when you come in..

You think the Four Basic Food Groups are Caffeine, Nicotine, Alchohol, and [Women or Men].

Every night you’re beginning to find your roommate’s cat more and more attractive.

Roseanne looks good.

Don’t recognize wife unless seen through bottom of glass.

That damned pink elephant followed me home again.

I’m as sober as a judge.

The shrubbery’s drunk from too frequent watering.

You wake up screaming ‘TORO TORO TORO!’ in the middle of the night.

Now that Mitt Romney has won in all the states he has ties to shouldn’t he mostly be emphasizing his record?

Saturday 20 February 2010 @ 10:46 pm
massachusetts jobs
Brenda M asked:

Mitt Romney handily won all the states he has a big history with; Massachusetts, Michigan, & Utah; his competition can stop saying Mitt has a bad record there.

Mitt needs to focus on his history with these states & with his private sector business rather than to use vague criticism that McCain or Huckabee aren’t conservative enough. We need to hear the specifics.

Mass – Mitt turned a $3 BILLION deficit into a $700 MILLION surplus w/out raising taxes, brought 60,000 new jobs after the mass exodus preceeding him, the TOP 25% of students get to go to state colleges or universities for free, he got us healthcare using the conservative approach. In Utah- Winter Olympics. Also focus on his private sector life.

Mitt needs to be specific & focus on the economy. We’re in a recession! Jobs are getting scarce especially in certain areas, business are leaving the U.S., forclosures are astronomical. Mitt has a great record to run on, but people need specifics.
McCain admits he knows nothing about economics. He has been in charge of a border state for 25 years, but doesn’t have a completed border. McCain called us ****** for not supporting his amnesty plan. McCain called Christians agents of intolerance.

Huckabee raised taxes and commuted the sentence of murderers. Huckabee wants to make the Constitution more God friendly.

The statement “not conservative enough” is too vague. People don’t get what you mean by that. People however, do understand when you list a litany of differences and your own good record.
Now that Mitt can prove that he has overwhelming support of his constituents; his critics can stop saying negative things about his record.
I’m voting my conscience. I will not suport a candidate that does not jive with my core values or calls me names just because he’s the nomination. I’m stick with Romney as long as he’s in it. I may even write his name on my ballot if he’s not on it in November.
